Dressing with Kids (and Mama too): SHIFT DRESSES

shift dresses: simple, straight lines, comfy, easy to move in, super versatile… what’s not to love?!

after several months of “gentle coaxing” from erinn, the pippi sweater tunic finally convinced me that i could maybe get my face in front of the camera for one of these posts, so here we here!! (thanks to miss lila and mister hanki for tagging in on the camera for a few shots each.)

lila and i each picked out a “shift” style dress with a simple silhouette, but we especially love the little details that make each dress unique — lila’s margo dress with it’s mock turtleneck collar and delicate monochromatic stripes, and the cozy knit and roomy pockets of the pippi tunic take the dresses from basic to something a bit more special.

the pippi dressed down: paired with a jean jacket and sneakers, the pippi tunic was perfect for a day of momming that included school pick up, groceries and a quick adventure in the forest before dinner.

the margo for every day: the perfect everyday dress, the margo is great for lazing around the house, AND also for school days and playing outside. skinny10skinny09

layers for cooler days: whether it’s a fitted turtleneck with black tights and ankle booties, or a roomy cardi and combat boots, adding layers under OR over a shift dress can carry the sleeveless piece through the fall and winter, and create a whole bunch of outfits from one dress. in this case lila got the cardigan and i the turtleneck but both dresses could easily be styled both ways — an erinn cardigan in one of the upcoming new colours (eeee!) would be extra cozy with the pippi this winter!

skinny04skinny05skinny03with both of these pieces the options are seriously endless! pair the margo with the cara fur vest, festive tights and mary janes for holiday concerts and christmas photos, or throw a girl gang sweater over top and knot it at the waist! accessorize the pippi with a cute scarf or belt and heels for a night out, or throw it over jeans and a rachel crop and wear it as a long vest!

can’t wait to see how you style yours!

until next month,
xo, andrea hanki
