Dressing with Kids: TINY COTTONS F/W ’17

i always find august to be a bit bittersweet — on the one hand, summer break is half over and back to school and the end of carefree summer days are drawing nearer, but on the other… it’s time for fall fashion! if i had to pick just one season to dress myself and the kids for all year round, it would most definitely be fall. the warm, rich tones, the layers, the texture, i love it all, and when we saw the goodies that erinn was bringing in from tiny cottons for the season, lila and i got more than a little excited. lila chose a couple of her favourite pieces from the line for these photos and i really really wish they came in my size — there is so much to love about both the fringe knit vest with its soft merino wool and fringed shoulder detail, and the dolls button down skirt with its gorgeous rust colour, sweet illustrations, roomy pockets(!) and snaps up the front.

we went out exploring near our home one evening and styled the clothes three ways, the skirt and shirt together and also pairing the individual pieces with existing items from lila’s closet and i can already tell that both are going to be on high rotation throughout the coming months.

the skirt. for the first look we actually paired the skirt with this amazing tiny cottons swimsuit that’s doing double duty as a cute bodysuit in this case — just perfect for the last bit of summer here but easily transitioning into cooler weather with a chunky cardigan thrown over top. perhaps, something like the norah cardigan which is always a fave.

the shirt. paired here with a pair of lila’s favourite shorts, this top is one of those pieces that will go with pretty much anything in your child’s existing wardrobe. with its monochromatic palette, it works with any colour under the rainbow and can easily be dressed up or down!

the look. each piece awesome on its own, but they are even better when paired together to create the perfect comfy yet pulled together fall look.

a couple more options we’re looking forward to trying this fall, dressing up the shirt with a fancy skirt (can never go wrong with the lila skirt!) and ballet flats, and dressing down the skirt with a simple tee and biker boots.

enjoy the rest of your summers, and happy back to school shopping everyone!

until next month,
